The boarding ladder is a device for modern large oil tankers to safely and smoothly board and disembark the ship when the loading and unloading workers and crew members are docked at the dock. The traditional boarding device relies on the gangway carried by the ship itself.
In the development of oil tanker terminals, modern large oil tanker terminals, especially those in unprotected pier-type terminals, have not completely continuous dock surfaces and high elevations. Ships are bumpy and move frequently and with large amplitudes during operation. Due to the large fenders of the terminal, the distance from the side of the ship docked at the terminal to the dock shoreline is relatively large. The ship-to-shore connection under this condition is difficult to solve with the gangway carried by the oil tanker. Therefore, in order to speed up the loading and unloading operations of ships and ensure the safety of personnel boarding and disembarking, modern large oil tanker terminals have to replace the ship gangway with a boarding ladder. The boarding ladder is almost similar to the oil transfer arm and has become an indispensable large-scale operating device for oil tanker terminals. Although the boarding ladder has a simple function, due to the environment in which it is located, the boarding ladder must have good technical performance. In order to adapt to the conditions of constant turbulence in ship-shore quality inspection and possible incidental situations, the design should make a detailed analysis of the hydrological and meteorological data of the port and the relevant data of possible ships arriving at the port, determine the operating conditions it is suitable for, and select the correct structural plan and reliable safety protection measures to achieve the desired purpose.
