The boarding ladder is a device for loading and unloading workers and crew members to board and disembark smoothly when modern large oil tankers are docked at the terminal. The traditional boarding device relies on the gangway carried by the ship itself.
In the development process of oil tanker docks, modern large oil tanker docks, especially those in unprotected pier-type docks, have not completely continuous dock surfaces and high elevations. Ships are frequently bumpy and move frequently during operations, and the amplitude is relatively large. Due to the large dock fenders, the distance from the side of the ship docked at the dock to the dock shoreline is relatively large. The ship-shore connection under such conditions is difficult to solve with the gangway of the oil tanker. Therefore, in order to speed up the loading and unloading operations of ships and ensure the safety of personnel boarding and disembarking, modern large oil tanker docks have to replace the ship gangway with a boarding ladder. The boarding ladder is almost similar to the oil transfer arm and has become an indispensable large-scale operation device for oil tanker docks.
Although the function of the boarding ladder is simple, it must have good technical performance due to the environment in which it is located. In order to adapt to the always turbulent conditions between the ship and the shore, as well as possible incidental situations, the design should make a detailed analysis of the hydrological and meteorological data of the port and the relevant information such as the possible ships arriving at the port, determine the operating conditions it is suitable for, and select the correct structural plan and reliable safety protection measures to achieve the desired purpose.

The boarding ladder consists of a column, a suspension ladder and related auxiliary structures, and is equipped with mechanisms for lifting, pitching, rotating and front ladder adjustment.
The driving mechanism of the boarding ladder generally adopts a mechanical and hydraulic driving system. In order to ensure the safe operation of each transmission mechanism, various safety protection devices are set according to needs in the design, and explosion-proof electrical devices must be used for all electrical devices of the boarding ladder.
The selection of the boarding ladder is mainly based on the conditions such as the tonnage of the wharf, tidal changes, the current status of the wharf plane, price-performance ratio, etc. The user must fill in the parameter form and submit it to the manufacturer to determine the envelope range, basic size and load data of the boarding ladder.
EBL-E1 consists of a main ladder, a triangular ladder and a frame. It is suitable for 0.3~30,000-ton-class docks.
EBL-E2 consists of main ladder, front ladder, triangular ladder, rotating platform and columns. It is suitable for 0.5~50,000 ton docks
EBL-E3 consists of main ladder, front ladder, triangular ladder, rotating platform, traction mechanism and columns. It is suitable for 10,000-80,000-ton docks.
EBL-E4 is composed of main ladder, front ladder, triangular ladder, rotating platform, lifting mechanism and tower. The rotating platform can be raised and lowered along the tower. It is suitable for 20,000-300,000-ton docks.
